Celebrate Lunar New Year with W.O.W. Project!

From Chinatown, With Love (FCWL) is an annual mutual aid program in partnership with the W.O.W. Project and Abrons Arts Center and in collaboration with lucky risograph and Midnight Project. By reimagining traditions like red envelope giveaways, FCWL brings together Asian American artists and Chinatown small businesses to combat gentrification and economic challenges through art and community engagement. Grounded in communal care, FCWL transforms individual struggles into a shared commitment to mutual growth and renewal. 

For the Year of the Wood Snake’s fifth edition of From Chinatown, With Love, artists A Liang Chan, Mischelle Moy, Jia Sung, Stefanie Tam, Rose Wong, and Fiona Ye create custom red envelopes and stickers inspired by the 25 participating businesses and the transformative energy of the year of the wood snake. 

「來自唐人街,與愛同行」(From Chinatown, With Love,以下簡稱FCWL)是一個年度互助項目,由永安和計劃與Abrons藝術中心合作,並攜手lucky risograph和Midnight Project共同完成。此項目重新詮釋春節紅包贈送等傳統,以藝術為媒介,促進社區互動,凝聚亞裔美籍藝術家與華埠小企業的力量,以對抗士紳化及經濟挑戰。以社區關懷為基石,FCWL將個體的困境轉化為集體成長與復興的承諾。

在木蛇年的第五屆FCWL活動中,藝術家A Liang Chan、Mischelle Moy、Jia Sung、Stefanie Tam、Rose Wong和Fiona Ye聯手創作了靈感來自25家參與企業以及木蛇年變革力量的專屬紅包與貼紙。一組一套都充分展現著這些商家的創意與韌性。

Jungs Dried Beef

Jung's Dried Beef has been serving the highest quality beef jerky in the neighborhood since 1980. The owners wake up early every morning to lovingly hand grill each piece of beef jerky that fill up the glass jars on the shop counter. Choose from the 5 differents kinds of 'moo' and you definitely won't be disappointed.

平記牛肉乾自1980年開業以來,一直是華埠最具人氣的牛肉乾店。老闆每天都早早起床,親手用心烤製每一塊牛肉乾,將它們放進櫃台上透明的玻璃罐裡,讓人一眼就能看到那酥脆的美味。店裡提供五種不同口味的“moo”(是的,牛叫聲也能成為美味的代名詞!),無論您選擇哪一款,保證絕對不會讓您失望的喔!

Nha Trang One

Andy’s parents founded Nha Trang in 1992 to bring affordable, authentic Vietnamese cuisine to their new home in New York City, a legacy that Andy continues proudly. Be sure to order a bowl of Nha Trang's pho! It's one of the best in the neighborhood.

自1992年開業以來,芽莊餐廳始終致力於為紐約帶來物美價廉、正宗的越南美食。Andy自父母手中接下這家餐廳,並以此為榮,延續著他們的承諾。每年春節,芽莊餐廳的全體員工齊聚一堂,品嚐烤豬,共同慶祝這個傳統佳節,營造出溫馨而喜慶的氣氛,也將家的感覺傳遞給每位顧客。

Spongies Cafe

Spongies is owned and operated by Fernando, who started baking with his grandmother at age 5 and eventually learned from a master sponge cake baker just a few doors down from the current Spongies location. Regulars of all ages frequent the cafe to say hi to Fernando and his family, stock up on rotating flavors of sponge cake, and grab their signature tea!

Kopitiam

Kopitiam is run by the lively Kyo, a third-generation Nyonya, who draws inspiration from her roots and aims to create a feeling of home for her customers. Staying true to the Malay and Chinese flavors she’s most familiar with, Kyo recommends trying their staple white coffee, pan mee, and kuih talam!

Kyo,這位熱情的第三代娘惹,將她的文化根源融入到Kopitiam餐廳的每一道菜品中,無論是馬來華人的傳統風味,還是她根據自己對口味的理解創作的獨特菜單,每一口都能感受到她對家鄉的熱愛和堅持。無論是她們的招牌咖啡、pan mee,還是kuih talam,總能讓人回味無窮,彷彿帶著大家穿越時空,共享她的文化故事。

Dashop

Dashop Corp is a hobby shop that has been around for over 15 years, specializing in collectible cards, model kits, and statues. Owner Victor Lam is the child of Vietnamese refugees and was born and raised in Brooklyn. In the 2000s, Vic noticed Manhattan Chinatown was becoming known for “counterfeits” and “knockoffs.” He wanted to show a different side of Chinatown and curated his store to sell high quality toys and collectibles, much to the delight of anime fans of all ages.

自2000年起,浩達濤模型玩具店便為華埠的動漫迷們帶來了不少驚喜。店主Victor Lam,是越南難民的後代,從小在布魯克林長大,並在華埠這片土地上開始了自己的事業。這家店的獨特之處在於,在華埠“山寨品”充斥的吵雜中,它展示了華埠另一面,精心挑選的高品質玩具和收藏品吸引著各年齡層的顧客,成為動漫迷的天堂,見證著華埠社區文化的變遷與傳承。

EWA Trading Co.

Under the weather? Stop by EWA Trading Co to receive a consultation from Jenny and Zhou, who sell herbs, teas, and other TCM remedies. Previously located at 24 Mott, Jenny and Zhou took over the shop from the original owner in 1997. In addition to thoughtful customer service, EWA also offers beautiful porcelain, trinkets, and vintage jewelry!

G&J Florist

G&J Florist has specialized in plants and flowers since 2014. In the summer of 2020, Jennifer and Gary expanded to farm fresh produce. Gary personally drives to local farms in Pennsylvania in the early mornings to source seasonal vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, and more. You can check out their weekly selection of new produce on their social media and make sure to say hi to their cat CEO when you visit!

Bok Lei Po Trading

The last remaining martial arts specialty store in Chinatown, Bok Lei Po serves a dedicated community of kung fu enthusiasts, Samurai sword shoppers, and practitioners of other martial arts, like muay thai and karate. Owner Kevin has been running the business with his brother Gong since 1997 celebrating almost 30 years in the heart of Chinatown.

自1997年開業以來,百利寶公司便成為了華埠武術愛好者的聚集地。這家店專營各類武術用品,無論是功夫迷、武士刀愛好者,還是學練泰拳與空手道的武術迷,都能在這裡找到心儀的寶物。店主Kevin與哥哥Gong共同經營,憑藉著對傳統武術的熱愛與對品質的堅持,百利寶公司已經深深紮根於華埠,成為這片土地上不可或缺的一部分。

K.K. Discount

KK Discount has been in business since 1990. Owners Ken and Vicki have covered every inch of their store with a wide range of household items and kitchen supplies. From carbon steel woks to rice cookers to shopping carts and mahjong sets, you are guaranteed to find what you're looking for and more!

Mulberry St. fruit vendors

From morning to night for nearly 28 years, Mui and her family have presented a stunning selection of fresh and seasonal fruit across Mulberry and Canal Street. No matter the weather or season, Mui’s rich colorful fruits bring nourishment to the community.  Her favorite fruit are persimmons which you can find in season from roughly October to January.

近三十年來,無論天氣如何,Mui和她的家人總是從清晨忙到黃昏,在茂比利街和堅尼街擺攤賣時令水果,讓華埠的街頭充滿了五彩繽紛的果香。Mui最愛的水果是柿子,每年十月到翌年一月,是柿子最鮮美的季節,這也是她每年最期待的時候。

Peony Chinese Bonsai

Mr. Li specializes in Bonsais and bamboo. He has his own greenhouse in New Jersey, where he grows the plants he sells in the shop. Mr. Li is also a kung fu master and calls himself Mr. Miyagi.

Li先生最擅長盆栽和竹子。他在新澤西州有自己的溫室,店裏出售的植物都是在那裏種植的。他還是一位功夫大師,並以《空手道少年》的宮城先生自稱!

Sun Sai Gai

With over 20 years of experience working alongside friends in Chinatown’s restaurant scene, Ming says he “feels happy to see customers come back to the restaurant - that’s what matters”. His hope for the new year is for more young people to come back and support Chinatown businesses. Patrons love Sun Sai Gai’s barbequed meats the most - pork, duck, pig, chicken - and often enjoy it with noodles or congee.

與華埠餐飲界的朋友們共事二十多年,Ming老闆常說:“我最開心的,是每次看到老顧客再度光臨,那才是最重要的。”他希望在新的一年裡,能見到更多年輕人回到華埠,支持這裡的本土商家。食客們每次光顧新世界茶餐廳,總是點上一份燒肉、烤鴨、燒豬或燒雞,簡單搭配一碗熱騰騰的粥或面條,就是一頓無可挑剔的美味。

Sweets Bakery

Sweets Bakery was established 30 years ago, and was taken over by Johnnie the current owner in the mid-2000s. To this day it maintains its classic Hongkong flavors. Johnnie is particularly proud of the char siu buns, and buys high-quality meat himself to ensure the taste. The pandemic has been particularly challenging for the business, and with rising rent, the bakery has to sell 1000 cups of milk tea a day to make ends meet.

思味餅屋在三十年前成立,在00年代中期由現任老闆Johnnie 接管。時至今日,該店依然保持著經典港風。Johnnie 最引以為豪的是該店的叉燒包!他每日親自采購優質肉類,以確保叉燒包的口感。在疫情肆意和租金大漲的雙重壓力下,餅屋每天要賣出一千杯奶茶才能勉強維持生計。

Ho Won Bake Shop

Opened in 1980, Ho Won is a family-owned bakery and favorite hangout spot for many local elders. Owner Warren went to french culinary school and brings his expertise to the bakery's offerings. From shrimp rice rolls to coconut buns to sticky rice in lotus leaf, Ho Won continues the legacy of beloved Chinatown coffee shops that are no longer.

好運咖啡屋自1980年開業以來,便深得華埠長輩的喜愛,成為他們每日的聚集地。店主Warren曾赴法國深造,歸來後,他把法式烘焙的精緻技藝融入了這家老字號的小店裡。無論是蝦仁腸粉、椰子包,還是荷葉糯米飯,每一道佳肴都讓人回味無窮,恍若品味著華埠百年的風華。

Wing on Wo. & Co.

Wing on Wo is an over-century year old porcelain shop located in the heart of Manhattan's Chinatown. Boasting a 5-generation long legacy, owner Mei Lum is breathing new life into cultural craft while honoring the shop's past and her grandparents' sourcing history. W.O.W.'s offerings span their very own custom porcelain pieces, zines by artists and individual presses, and many unique trinkets from a bygone era.

位於勿街26號的永安和瓷器店,擁有超過百年的歷史,猶如華埠的文化寶庫。經歷五代傳承,新一代店主林美虹延續祖輩的採購歷史,也為這家老店注入了嶄新的活力,讓永安和代表的傳統手工藝綻放新光。店內琳瑯滿目的商品無不蘊含著深厚的文化底蘊:自家訂製的手繪瓷器、獨立出版的藝術時事小誌、以及歷經歲月洗禮的古董小物,每一件物品都藏著一段值得細細品味的故事。

Sin Vin Grocery

Sun Vin started as a fish and veggie stall and was renovated in 2009 to be the abundant supermarket it is today. Jasmine has been managing the storefront since 2020 and loves serving her intergenerational customer base. When asked what her favorite product in the shop is, Jasmine pointed to the sprawling wall of many arrays of ramen.

新榮食品雜貨公司最初是一個魚菜攤,直到2009年才升級成現在這樣琳瑯滿目的超市。自從2020年以來,Jasmine開始打理這家店,很快成有了一群混齡忠誠顧客。當被問到店裡最喜歡的商品是什麼時,Jasmine指向牆上的各式拉麵,開心地說那是她的最愛。

New T.Y.K. Ginsengs & Herbs

Specializing in traditional Chinese medicine, New T.Y.K Trading Inc. is a neighborhood mainstay run by Mr. Lo. Mr. Lo is really passionate about traditional Chinese medicine and has been serving the Chinatown community for over 20 years!

Lo先生經營的長城人參補品藥材海味公司,早已成為華埠的中藥寶庫。Lo先生對於傳統中醫藥的熱愛,已經超過二十年,他一直為華埠社區提供各種優質的中藥材與保健品。

Hop Lee

Hop Lee has been serving traditional Cantonese food in the heart of Chinatown since 1973. Owner and manager, Johnny Mui recommends their famous lobster yi mein perfect to celebrate the opening of Lunar New Year!

Wen Wah has been a mainstay on one of Chinatown’s busiest blocks for over 20 years. Filled floor to ceiling with modern and traditional clothing for all seasons, Wen Wah also features a small sewing room in the back where her seamstress provides quality, affordable alterations!

Asia Roma

Asia Roma opened in 1994. To visitors, Asia Roma’s clams casino is the best they’ve ever had; to regulars, Asia Roma is their living room with a disco ball. Visit for a fun night filled with Italian-Asian food, drinks, and karaoke.

Bangkok Grocery Center

Bangkok Center Grocery opened around 2000. In addition to selling Thai spices and sauces, owner Tom loves to share cooking tips and Thai recipes. Drop by for fresh holy basil, kaffir lime leaves, curry pastes, and the best frozen treats.

Jojo Duck

Jojo Duck started in Flushing, and opened a second location in Chinatown in 2020. They are known for an array of braised meats such as duck neck, chicken feet, and beef tripe, but their most popular items are their buns and vegetarian dumpling offerings.

九九鴨始於法拉盛,在華埠開設的是其第二家分店。這家店主要經營滷鴨脖、滷雞爪、滷牛肚等滷料,這些肉類深受華人顧客的喜愛。最近,為了吸引更多非華人遊客,九九鴨還開始經營葷素包子和韭菜盒,進一步拓展了其顧客群,將華埠的經典美味帶向更多人的餐桌。

Lucky King Bakery + Nice One Bakery

Lucky King bakery opened in 1990. Started by six Toisan brothers, the bakery’s cross-generational popularity amongst Toisan families allowed them to open another: Nice One Bakery. Be sure to try the regulars’ favorite: spare ribs with noodles.

雙喜大餅家自1990年創立,最初由六位台山兄弟所開設。這家麵包店憑藉著在台山家庭中跨世代的廣泛口碑,成功吸引了大批忠實顧客,並成功開設了另一家分店——雙喜大餅家-Nice One Bakery。無論是新老顧客,都對這裡的美味倍感眷戀。來店時,千萬別錯過顧客最喜愛的招牌排骨麵!這道經典美味,香氣四溢,肉質鮮嫩,每一口都是滿滿的幸福感。
