Lunar New Year and Year of the Wood Dragon preparations were upon us!! We packed a month of programming which included the launch of our annual From Chinatown, With Love collaboration with Abrons Arts Center and Lucky Risograph which in its 4th iteration provided much needed mutual aid to 12 businesses within a 2 block radius of the megajail site.
Many joined us as we fought with a renewed commitment for a world in which Chinatown serves and is shaped by its community, a world in which prisons and jails do not exist, and a world of abundance, safety, and reciprocity.
We found volunteers to help us assemble this year's From Chinatown, With Love calendar! Volunteers got a free calendar. Volunteers were tasked to do the following: Folding zines, cutting zines, tying knots, collating (putting pages in order), hole-punching, packaging zines/calendar into cellophane slip!
Abrons Arts Center and the W.O.W. Project came together to celebrate the Year of the Wood Dragon with the fifth edition of From Chinatown, With Love, a Lunar New Year calendar illustrated by Amanda Chung, Banyi Huang, Clae Lu, Jen Louie, Anson Lin, and Joy Freund. This year the calendar provided much-needed mutual aid to 12 businesses that are within a 2-block radius of the Manhattan Detention Center construction site. We were thrilled to be partner with lucky risograph again this year to design, print, and co-host our public programming for this year’s iteration of From Chinatown, With Love.
